ABC Check Before Riding

The ABC check before riding is very important, this will make sure that your bike doesn’t have any problem nor encounter problems during your ride.

A stands for air. Check your tire pressure, make sure that your tire is inflated with the right PSI. Bring a tire pump with you and re-inflate if tire is flat. Bring couple CO2 with you with head along with you. When totally flat, make sure that you have an extra tube with you. Without air, tube would be useless. CO2 will come handy in this situation.

B stands for brake. Check if your brake works, front and back, and is in great condition.

C stands for check. Check everything and make sure everything works. From gear shifting to braking to tire inflation to gears. Also, check if your tire is still okay to ride

With some group of friends, we did 31 miles. 8 miles on the trail and the rest on the road. On the 21 mile, my friend had a flat. His pump does not fit the valve. I had to use my CO2 to put air on the tube.

Below, you can see where we ride. Riding on the street could be fun and sometimes be exciting. Not knowing if the light is going to turn yellow. This could be a slow ride back home, but it feels great.

Building Endurance

Before, I couldn’t bike 17 miles without stopping. I made an achievement going 17 miles without stopping. This is an accomplishment for me. Starting from PCH to SART to Honda Center in Anaheim, this course is about 17 miles.

Next biking I would try biking 30 miles without stopping, maybe a quick bathroom break.

I am investing on a new bicycle training, so when it’s raining, windy or just lazy day for me, I could hop off my trainer and practice pedaling and build endurance.

29 Miles Bike Ride

Usually, I ride 20 miles with other bikers but not this time. This time I hit the almost 30 miles, well it’s actually more than 30 but there are some points where I didn’t record the mileage.

We made it back in less than two hours, I left the tracker on when we stopped. I had some minor problem, my seat was moving causing it to rock back and forth. It did some damage to my performance, I couldn’t pedal and it made me seat all the way back. None of us have tools to fix this, I left mine at home and some of my friends left theirs in the car. We had to ask someone for some tools, it did fix it but after couple miles the seat was moving again.

Remember, double check that you have your tools with you. It is very helpful that you have your own and not rely on your friends.

Clipless vs. Regular Pedal

What are the advantages of having a clipless pedal and a regular pedal?

They said that it is easier to pedal with clipless and hard to release. Are these true? It is easy to pedal with clipless. With clipless, you do a PULL and PUSH and with just a regular pedal, all you do is PUSH down.

Also, what I’m hearing is that when you fall down, you fall down with your bike. Actually, this is not true, with clipless pedal it is easy to release from the clip. When you go down, hopefully you don’t, you will be released from the clip and it makes you not go down with the bike.

The big advantage of the clipless pedal is going uphill, it’s going to be much easier pedaling uphill because you do a PUSH PULL rather than just PUSHING your pedal. Plus, you’re not going to slip off your pedal.
